This is the first book of six based in Prairie Springs, Texas and Fort Bonnell. This series is about returning soldiers and helping the innocent victims of war.
Caitlyn Villard become an instant mother to five year old twins, Amanda and Josie, when both her sister and brother-in-law die in combat leaving her as their guardian. She has to move from NYC to Prairie Springs. Her mother has been caring for the twins while their parents were overseas, but it has been to much for her and she is tired and worn out.Steve Windham is the army chaplin for soldiers and their families stationed at Fort Bonnell which is next to Prairie Springs. As chaplain he feels he has the responsibility to help Amanda and Josie as well as Caitlyn.
Caitlyn was a lawyer and worked for a high powered firm in NYC and had taken a month of leave to get to know the twins, help them and her mother to recover from their grief, see them financially settled, and return to NYC. In the mean time she had no income. She took a job at Children of the Day, a charity that helped victims of war. She was the care coordinator and her first job there was to find a way to get Ali Tabiz ,who had been orphaned and injured in the fighting, into the US to have surgery. This was to be a harder job than she expected as she had to find a relative to assume responsibility for him while he was in the US.
I really enjoyed the book and plan on reading the rest of the series even though I don't normally read books containing religion.
