James, the Duke of Alvord, had been drinking with his friends. The next morning he wakes up in an Inn and finds his friends standing in the open doorway and laughing at his naked state and the strange woman next to him.
Miss Sarah Hamilton of Philadelphia, a prim and proper young woman has just arrived. She is exhausted and looking forward to a dry, stationary bed. The Inn keeper says he has nothing available. A pleasant young man, one of James friend's thinks she is a woman he had hired for the night, as a surprise for the Duke, tells her not to worry he has a room for her. He leaves her in the room and goes back to his party.
Sarah thinking she is now in a safe secure room undresses and gets into bed.
Now with his laughing friends staring at her, she is ruined.
James offers to marry her. What if he got her pregnant?
She doesn't want to give up her independence and insists on waiting.
And so begins the courtship of Sarah.
This book is absolutely delicious!
My daughter read it first and it was difficult to read my own book because she was laughing out loud. Now, this is my quiet child. She doesn't usually do anything out loud! ;-}}
