Sharon Mason is a crazy doormat martyr heroine. Warning: this summary rant contains lots of spoilers so no one else will ever have to suffer through this book. Not long ago, her fiance dumped her a few days before the wedding by leaving the hotel and heading to his yacht and mistress, sending back word via the Police that he would not be returning. Of course, then he got killed in a yacht race and the newspapers confused Sharon with the mistress who cried out "save me first" while he was drowning. Anyway so now she wants some peace and quiet away from the harassing phone calls and letters so she goes to this remote island where a movie is being filmed. But right away she comes up with trouble from Calum Darwin who is living in a tent next to the cabin – he's the author of the book being made into a movie. Only he scorns Sharon too, while trying to get into her pants and offering to marry her to defend her name or something. But can Sharon ever find happiness with a man so quick to condemn her based on newspaper accounts?
Well, I personally don't think so! Calum is not the worst guy in the book but he's not the best either. He's one of those “alpha” heroes the ignorant public thinks we go in for: bruising kisses, quick to condemn and threatening to beat the heroine (oh sorry, “flay” her) while running around with another woman at the same time. He wants to “take” her and he's the man who when he saves Sharon from the midst of being raped and murdered by the lead actor on the movie (the guy, Lee, wants to kill her to revenge himself on his ex wife and because he found out about the save me first story) thinks she invited Lee to have sex with her and just got in over her head: “This [the bruises all over her throat from her being strangled] is some men's way of making love”! But Sharon is really not much better, she makes out with Cal just seconds after he says that! And she has ample evidence she isn't the save me first girl – she was no where near the boat when the accident happened – but she refuses to tell the story to anyone because the dead guy's parents didn't want to let the story out and they were in poor health. OMG seriously this is one of the worst books I've ever read. And now I'm upset cuz I have two other Lilian Peake books in my TBR pile and I don't want to ever see her name again! Ergh, and now I have to calm down enough to get to bed! DO NOT READ THIS BOOK!
