PAUSE BETWEEN ACTS

Liz Fielding
Format: Print Books
Series:

I've always been a fan of Mavis Cheek and enormously enjoyed PAUSE BETWEEN ACTS, the story of Joan's reaction to be dumped by her husband after less than a year of marriage.

She cuts herself off from everyone, enjoying being totally isolated - in the "fifth dimension" she calls it - holding off everyone who wants to be friends, although the rather toothsome Robin takes a lot of shifting from the arm of her chair in the teacher's common room.

But then, stoked up on vodka and chocolate (a very bad mix), her life is invaded on New Year's Eve by Finbar Flynn, an actor in the Byronic mould.  After that things go seriously pear-shaped.

Beautiful writing, interesting characters and anything but a Harlequin Romance ending but Joan is happy and so was I when I shut the book.
