Pick Me Up by Samantha Hunter, HB Aug 07 #343
Wow! I am going to have to look for more of Samantha Hunter’s books. Her heroine is initially afraid of her own shadow—the growth of this young woman takes place over the course of the book. It is like watching a flower unfolding in time-lapse photography. Hunter brings many elements to play in this story. Clearly, it is a story of the growth of this intensely sexual relationship initially, but soon there is so much more involved between Lauren and Brett. There is a bit of a mystery in her story as well. I had some guess about ‘who-dun-it’ and much later in the book the author raises the possibility of the very people I suspected (she laid the groundwork well, but didn’t tell all). In the end it was the one that was the remote possibility—nice work Sam! I liked not being able to tell. The author also had some emotional juggling to do with that who-dun-it element and she handled that very well, too. I don’t normally read Blazes, but maybe I should once and a while. There are now at least four authors in this imprint I really enjoy. Thumbs up!
Lauren is looking for adventure and growth. She has recently left a stifling marriage and needs to find out who she really is. When she offers a ride to a stranger, she is stepping outside her comfort zone. This leads to some new beginnings, or does it?

Maybe List...
I have never read Blazes, but thinking to try one, what would you recommend?
Thanks.

I haven't read very many,
I haven't read very many, but I have read this one of Samantha Hunter. She writes well-develops a well fleshed out story. There are some intensely sensual sex scenes using very descriptive language. This is something that pushes me out of my comfort zone, but it was worth it in this story, because the story was that captivating. Lori Borrill is another author in this imprint that develops a good story. Right now I can't think of another author. But you could go to the Blaze forum on the Simply Series board and ask for some recommendations.
I will look for more of Sam's and Lori's books. Oh, the author of Flashpoint, Jill...Jill...Jill Shalvis (I think).

I am with you, Nancy, too
I am with you, Nancy, too descriptive sex scenes sometimes threw me off, I have to skip through it. I know Blazes is more bold than Presents (which I like, but some are too much for me).
I'll take your suggestions to look into Sam's & Lori's. Thanks.

Blaze...
Glad to see you trying the Blaze books. All of Sam's books have been very enjoyable. I always look forward to any new release by her. I read Pick Me Up which was very good. Jill Shalvis will always give you a good story as does Leslie Kelly, Lori Borrill and Jo Leigh. I know I'm leaving out other favorites but they will keep popping into my head!
Samantha Hunter and other authors stop by the Blaze thread under Simply Series, check it out! Good suggestions Nancy. If you like military heroes try Rhonda Nelson, another author that will always give you a good book!
Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
Take care, happy reading,

RIght, Jo Leigh is another author I've tried. Thanks for stopping by Donna and reminding me about another author.

Here I am!
Nancy, thank you so much for your generous review, and I'm so glad you enjoyed the little mystery/suspense subplot -- with very few exceptions, I tend to like to add suspense into my books, and that's true of the ones upcoming, as well (Hard to Resist is my Texas Ranger Blaze, out June 2009, part of a series with Alison Kent and Kimberly Raye).
I really appreciate all the kind words and support from all of you...

Sam, if you layer that
Sam, if you layer that mystery in all of your books as well as you did here, I'm impressed. Very nicely done!

Hi Nancy
I just got a free book from Sam so I will be reading one soon. I do read a few Blazes but it sounds like I have been missing some great reads as Paisley has reviewed a book by Sam as well and they both sound very good. It is a hit and miss thing with me as I read a Blaze when I am in the mood for some heat so I am usually okay with it. I hate it when hot sex appears in a line I am not expecting it in though.
When I get a little money I buy books, and then if any is left I buy food and clothes..-- Erasmus
I saw Merri's (Paisley)
I saw Merri's (Paisley) review of Sam's book and now I have to order that one. LOL
I definitely have to branch out and read some Blazes.

This one sounds good. NIce
This one sounds good. NIce blog! I have not read a ton of Blazes but so far of the 3 I have read, this author's was the one enjoyed the most of the three. I want to try Joanne Rock too just because I have read her HHs. I want to read a recent book by this author to see if her style has changed from 2005 (date of book I read) to now.
