The Playboy's Proposition by Angie Daniels (KR)

Sheyna Simmons and Jace Beaumont have been friends forever and they work together too – Sheyna works for Jace's family's hotel chain as a human resources manager or something. But ever since Sheyna dressed up as a French Maid to clean Jace's windows as the result of a bet, they've been a little too aware of each other for comfort. Or maybe it was the recent wedding of Sheyn'a best friend to Jace's brother that was the catalyst. Anyway, when Sheyna needs someone to bid on her at a bachelorette auction she's organizing for charity she thinks of Jace – and he wins a weekend in Vegas with her. Jace gets the idea that Sheyna is the only woman who should be sharing his bed and launches a campaign to get her to agree to a no strings Vegas fling. Only Jace is a playboy with a 3 week dating limit rule and Sheyna is a marriage minded girl who's just realizing that she may well be in love with Jace...

I'm sorry to say that this book just did not work for me. It took a lot of effort for me to even try to get into it and I found it way too easy to get pulled out of the story. If it wasn't the narrator voice that was bothering me, it was the motivations or thoughts of Jace and Sheyna. I think when I bought this it was going to be a bit more of a fun romp instead of Jace running around dating socialites and trying to get Sheyna into bed despite the two of them working together and being friends and her having told him she didn't think it was a good idea cuz she wanted something more serious. I don't know – I know this book must've worked soo much better for other people, but for me I was just frustrated by their lack of concern over possibly ruining their supposed friendship (which we didn't really get to see) and their business relationship. I also get the feeling I may be missing out on some backstory that might've been presented in Jace's brother's book... Disappointing.
