The Pregnancy Negotiation by Kristi Gold (SD 1763)
Back Cover:
He had what she needed.
Mallory O'Brien wanted a child more than anything. And smart, devastatingly sexy Whit Manning was just the man for the job. Seducing him would be a pleasure... for both of them.
But Whit wasn't a forever kind of man. Giving in to the heat she'd always felt between them came at a price Mallory wasn't sure she wanted to pay. Because once their steamy affair ended, and she was pregnant with his child, how could Mallory never touch Whit again?
Favourite Scene: (Mallory asks him to have a baby with her over breakfast)
"Let's have a baby Whit"
Whit continued to peruse the sports page and muttered, "A bagel sounds great, O'Brien. Add some of that cream cheese, will ya?"
"I didn't say bagel. I said baby. B-a-b-y."
Fortunately Whit was a multitasker. He could read the current baseball stats and still humour her. "Sure thing, but my schedule's pretty tight at the moment." He studied the ceiling and pretended to think. "I can probably do you at lunch on Tuesday, on top of the conference table, right after I get approval of the Barclay headquarters' design. I'll have my secretary mark it down on the calendar."
My Review:
This was a great premise, I love history between H/h, and friends-to-lovers stories. These two had known each other for 20 years and had close families. They have been roommates for the past four months and the hero has loved their friendship and not wanted to date anyone during that time (that should be a hint to him that he's interested in Mallory!). The scene where she asks him is hilarious, it's the opening scene I quoted. Once they settle on procreating, they are both so eager for the baby that it is really sweet. I love the scene in the car and the scene in his office (where his FATHER walks in on them... they were so immature to try to have sex in the office, but it was so cute how eager they were!).
The only thing that I would change in this book: is setting up more of a clear history between the H/h, there were no flashbacks to tender/intimate moments during the last 20 years where they grew close, it was all in the present, with one reference to the hero promising the heroine's father that he would marry her back when she was 14.
Rating: 4/5 stars, I love this kind of story and the eagerness to have a baby was sweet and sexy.
