PREGNANT NURSE, NEW-FOUND FAMILY by Lynne Marshall (HMR)

SYNOPSIS:  Single fatherhood entails a great deal of responsibility.  Dr. Gavin Riordan is still learning to cope with all the issues involved in raising 9 year old Patrick and is particularly worried about Patrick's reoccurring asthma attacks.  Allergy testing puts him right in the path of Bethany Caldwell, a woman he had a wild fling with at a recent party.  Neither Bethany nor Gavin can deny the attraction between them, but can they handle the news of Bethany's unexpected pregnancy?

MY THOUGHTS:  I know I've said this repeatedly but it bears repeating.... The Harlequin Medical line never ceases to amaze me at the sheer depth of story and emotion that is conveyed in such a short format.

Lynne Marshall uses every page to her advantage as she takes us into the heart and soul of her characters.  Gavin and Bethany are fully developed but even more importantly, Patrick is also well developed.  His involvement adds a deeper layer to the story as we see his side of the divorce and the emotions that Patrick struggles with.  I can't recommend this book highly enough for that aspect alone, as Lynne Marshall provides such a wealth of insight into the child of a divorced home and his unique perspective.

Bethany and Gavin find themselves in a position that neither expects.  Despite using protection, Bethany is pregnant.  Lynne Marshall takes readers through a gamut of emotions as these two characters begin developing a relationship and learning to trust one another.

The allergy and asthma issue adds a unique flavor to the tale.  Lynne Marshall demonstrates an excellent knowledge of the various factors influencing asthma and allergy attacks and this information was beautifully incorporated into the storyline.  Ultimately, Patrick stole my heart completely with his story!

PREGNANT NURSE, NEW-FOUND FAMILY is a deeply moving and extraordinarily emotional tale.  Lynne Marshall evokes strong emotions in her stories and this is more than evident in PREGNANT NURSE, NEW-FOUND FAMILY.  Highly recommended!

Release date...

It's an August 2008 release in the UK and will be out here in the US in October 2008.

Hi Debbie .....

Sounds like a good one .. I'll have to keep my eye open for it

... I just wanted to mention, what I meant over in Penni's blog about picking up sentences we already have in our reviews ....  should the format change, in this review, you could easily copy your very last paragraph to that new section Jayne was mentioning  .... it's the perfect sort of "quote" to express the overall feel for the book .... and then you review as you've written it can follow just as it is

... you do this "sum up" on all your reviews ... those are quite catchy and I know if I were to just read that quote, I'd be intrigued to either read your review further or actually read the book

Katherine T....

It's an August 2008 release in the UK and will be out here in the US in October 2008.

I suppose that is what I'll have to do but I have to say that I hate having to figure out what line to pull, etc.  It's extra work and since the point seems to be simplifying, it's rather annoying.  I'm already pulled in a thousand different directions and I've tried very hard to remain involved in eHarlequin this year; last year, I sort of gave up near the end but I'm trying and the constant changes, etc. only make it more difficult as it takes time to learn new things....... It just seems like the focus is all on getting new people without actually building that sense of community that made me want to participate in the first place.

learning curves .....

I wonder if there's a way for them to give an "opt" out button ... meaning if a reviewer doesn't want their review part of the feed they just check off the opt out button ... that way some we can pick and chose the reviews we want to share further

alot of authors are already picking up parts of our reviews to use on their websites with clicks back to the full review .... this is sort of what Jayne has in mind for the feed ... part of the review would be available on the book's shopping page, and if the shopper/reader wants to read more of the review they can click over to read it .... it brings more readers to the Community

I was shopping at the eHarl bookstore for two years before I really started to participate in the forums .... there was nothing to pull me over to the Community until one day I just took the time to explore .... so links between the two sections can only be a positive thing

Debbie, .. the last paragraph of your reviews is perfect for what Jayne is talking about .... there's nothing you need to change except to copy it to the spot Jayne says the feed will pick up ...

I like...

the idea of an opt out box.  And I hadn't really thought of the last paragraph of my reviews as being an option till you mentioned it.  I suppose that is what they are looking for...... And I do understand about drawing more folks in but I think right now I'm feeling like eHarlequin has gotten so big that it's already hard to have that sense of community I saw last year so I just wish some efforts would be made more in that direction first.  But then, eHarlequin didn't ask my opinion! Regardless, thanks for the idea on the last paragraph as that will at least keep me from having to rearrange entirely the way I write up my blogs! Smile
