  • Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
  • My current copy is published by Bantam books quite recently but was published for the first time in 1813.
  • Rating - Can this book actually be rated?

I don't even know how to go about reviewing this book.  There are so many little things, wonderful turn of words and utter magnificence in Pride and Prejudice.  There is a reason why this book is a classic.  Just sitting here thinking about the characters makes me smile.  I love them all.

I had not read this book in years and finally went out and bought myself another copy of it.  And after reading it mulitiple times in the past several months I fell in love with it all over again.

Sure, the change of pace from what I am used to reading can be intimidating but I have to admit after a few chapters in I hardly notice it because I am so wrapped up in the tale.

I agree about getting used to the different writing style after a steady diet of contemporary novels. Love the book and I am in awe of her storytelling ability.

P & P is probably my

P & P is probably my favorite book ever--although it could be a close second to Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird.  Hmmmm, I always have to think about that when people ask.  This is the first year in quite a while when I haven't found the time to reread both of the above as well as Austen's Persuasion--another of my general favorites.

I'm always delighted when I see that someone else is enjoying the book.  Laughing  (Not terribly certain if that is the English teacher in me or the Austen fan).  At any rate, I just wanted to say that I am glad you are enjoying Austen's (best, IMHO) book...

Austen's Persuasion

is one of her works that I have not read.  My favorite by Austen are Sense and Sensibility, Northanger Abbey and of course Pride and Prejudice.

I have a 17-yr-old dd who loves Austen's books. her favorite Austen is Mansfield Park. She had an English assignment to write a letter of recommendation (for herself) but in the voice of a favorite author. She did an awesome job of maintaining JA's voice throughout the letter. (She also got a 100% on the assignment.)

My favorite Austen is a draw between P&P and S&S with Mansfield Park running right behind.

I strongly recommend

I strongly recommend Persuasion.  I like it better than Sense and Sensibility

The couple in Persuasion is a more mature couple, especially for the time period, and I don't have the urge to throttle the heroine, which is how I occassionally feel with Marianne.
