In this book, characters from a previous Julie Miller book are reuinted in the first of a new series "The Precinct, Brotherhood of the Badge." Thomas "Sawyer" Kincaid and Melissa Teague met when Sawyer, a Kansas City police detective, was on an undercover op. Sawyer barely managed to save Melissa's life when her ex-husband, who worked for the Wolfe mob dynasty, tried to kill her.
This time around, Melissa wants no reminders of her vioent past, particularly any that remind her of her abusive ex-husband in any way. Sawyer, however, is having none of that because Melissa her adorable little boy are in terrible danger when her ex-husband Ace escapes from prison. To complicate the plot, Sawyer's father has just been murdered, and somehow Ace and the murderer become entangled together.
There's plenty of emotional stuff to go around, too. Sawyer is grieving his father. Melissa must deal with her fear of Sawyer, who is a very big, strong guy. She has to learn to trust again.
Definitely another must read by Julie Miller.
