This book by Dana Marton is one of several about members of the SDDU, an ultra-secret anti-terrorist unit that only the highest members of the U.S. government know about. When Congresswoman and Majority Whip Kaye Miller's life is threatened, her godfather, who is the leader of this group, asks one of its members, Daniel duCharme, to personally play bodyguard. Although Kaye is African American and Danny is biracial, its obvious this is not an issue for either of them. At issue for her is whether to love again after being widowed 3 years earlier, and their age difference (he is younger by 6 yrs). He feels overwhelmed by her star status and as Majority Whip.
Of course, danger negates all of this, perhaps a little too easily and not terribly believably. But, it's a good story and Kaye is a great heroine. She doesn't sit around and wait on Danny to save her. Her role is just as important as his. It's not really the typical bodyguard story in some ways, and if you like Harlequin Intrigue it's worth reading.
