Kathryn has moved back to Texas since her marriage has ended and her grandfather has died. She comes home with her 5 year old son to make a life away from Hollywood where she is a screenwriter and was married to a movie star. One of the first people she meets is Clay who was her lover 10 years earlier when she was 18 and he was 23. Within 2 days of returning home her son is kidnapped and held for ransom. Since Clay is an ex-cop he helps her with the ransom demands. They both have feelings for each other but come with baggage that needs to be taken out and looked at before they can come together again.
The mystery of the kidnapper is kept going for the entire book. You find out who the bad guy is in the last few chapters. There are several good suspects and she keeps you guessing until the end.
Would have liked to see an epilouge of how this couple was doing a few months or years down the road.
