A Reckless Beauty

Format: Print Books
Series: HQN Books

A Reckless Beauty by Kasey Michaels is the fifth of the Beckets of Romney Marsh series.  In my previous reviews, I have not mentioned that the siblings who share the Becket name are actually the adopted children of Ainsley Becket (AKA Geoffrey Baskin).  The fact that seven of the eight siblings were adopted was not terribly important until this story, which is Fanny's.  Because Fanny loves her "brother" Rian, she follows him to Belguim where he is stationed with his regiment.  Jack Eastwood (book 3) has asked one of his friends (Valentine Clement, the Earl of Brede) to help Rian out, so Rian ends up on Wellington's staff.  When the Earl comes to take Rian to Wellington's hq, Fanny is with Rian, so Brede feels compelled to take Fanny off the field and into Brussels, where he arranges for Fanny to stay with his sister.  Of course, Fanny's relationship with Brede develops over the course of the novel, and Fanny discovers that she does not really love Rian romantically.
