4 Hearts! ~~~ Diana Palmer gives us a powerful hero with a very unique difference!   I truly enjoyed Blake and Meredith's reunion and their growth as a couple.  Well done!

Reluctant Father by Diana Palmer ~ Silhouette Desire #469 ~ January 1989

Silhouettes very first, Man of the Month

Blake Donovan is a man who grew up with little love in his life. His mother died shortly after his birth and no one knew the identity of his father. It was his uncle who took him in, a man who was uncomfortable showing affection. Meredith Calhoun was goddaughter to Blake's uncle, and spent a great deal of time on the Donovan ranch. She'd adored Blake, but he'd rejected her cruelly. Five years later, Blake's surprised to discover he's a father from his short marriage, and the now motherless four year old Sarah now needs him. It's obvious that the child had been shown little love and Blake quickly bonds with her. Meredith is back in town for a brief stay, and Blake agonizes with guilt of his past treatment of her. Meredith would make the perfect mother for Sarah, and even though they still share a combustible attraction, Meredith wants nothing to do with Blake.

Though this lovestory does show it's age, Meredith is very much an independant woman and she's made her own fortune as a writer. She bears emotional scars from Blake's treatment of her, but can't deny that he still makes her knees wobble. She's astounded to learn that five years ago, Blake had been just as inexperienced with physical love as she had been. This is not the first time I've read a book from Ms. Palmer, where the hero lacks experience in the bedroom. Blake is very much a man's man, but he's delightfully uncertain of how to approach a woman. This vulnerability and his genuine paternal instincts make him a very desireable hero.
