The Reluctant Fiance by Jacqueline Baird (HP 1942)
Back Cover:
Second-time seduction!
Bea has been reunited with Leon Gregoris, her ex-fiancee . But this time Leon won't mesmerize her with his dark Greek-Cypriot good looks. Bea is older and in charge of herself now; she won't be captive to sexual chemistry!
Then Leon announces they are engaged again - which is news to Bea! Before she can protest, Leon has whisked her away to his luxury villa in Cyprus. And guess what: that same mutual, intense physical attraction is as strong as ever. Bea might be unwilling to be Leon's fiancee e a second time, but it's proving harder to steer clear of his bed!
Favourite Scene: (mmm, flatting her onto her back)
“My God, I should give you the good hiding you deserve. But, as you were at pains to point out, you’re a woman now.” Twisting her around, he pushed her flat on her back on the sofa. “A more adult punishment is called for.”
My Review:
Yay fidelity. I always want to give the author a medal anytime I see a hero being faithful to his heroine, especially when he doesn't technically owe it to her (i.e. they are separated). Too often you see the hero playing around during a separation, while the heroine stays pure and gives the hero the eventual satisfaction of knowing he was her only lover. Fair's fair. The chemistry was great. I liked them meeting again three years after their engagement ended. I liked that he took the opportunity to restart their engagement and install her in his home "for her own safety". It was a little too soon for them to start married life when she was only 18 anyway. I liked that the hero first met her when she was 8, and started falling in love with her at 15. One of the best scenes was him at 30, essentially blushing, as she queried him about the women he was being photographed in magazines with. He was like "I'm embarrassed in front of her? A 15 year old?" and that was when he started realizing he didn't want to be a player in this girl/woman's eyes.
My Rating: 3.5/5 stars, good reunion story.
