Scions: Insurrection (2008) by Patrice Michelle (SN #40)

Format: Print Books

When Detective Kaitlyn McKinney responds to a call and goes to a local park to investigate she finds evidence of an animal burning.  Or so it would appear to everyone else. While looking at the scene a PI that used to work for the police, Landon Rourke, shows up and surveys the scene as well, seeing far more than others would. They both see an unusual site, besides the obvious, that most would not and they are both being closed mouthed about this. Kaitlyn ropes Landon into helping her do a little reconnaissance work for the case she is working on and the same anomaly shows up during this investigation as well. Landon has been watching protectively over Kaitlyn for years and their current investigations push them together and Landon’s pent up feelings start to emerge.  Both the case Kaitlyn is working and the unofficial investigation Landon is in converge together, and both investigations become a lot more dangerous as the facts emerge.

The book was very good and is book two of a series.  While I didn’t read book one it is now on my TBB list.  The fact that I didn’t read the first book didn’t make it any harder to follow this one as you get enough references to what happened that you are kept up to speed on things. Kaitlyn ends up learning more about herself, and her family, than she was aware existed.  Landon also gets a bit of needed healing from Kaitlyn’s discoveries. The conclusion of this book sets up nicely some mysteries to be investigated in future books.  Smile
