SECOND-TIME LUCKY by Laurie Paige SSE 7/06
Do you ever just want to read an old favorite author a reconnection with a style of writing that you’ve long enjoyed? That’s how I felt when I pulled this first installment of Ms. Paige’s Canyon Country from the TBR.
I’ve enjoy Ms. Paige’s work for years. I had this series sitting in the middle of the TBR shelf and decided it was high time I gave it a try. This series acts as a quasi spin off from the Seven Devils series, at least some of the characters are in both series. Jeff, is a former military man raising his nephew and his brothers step children. He is now a sculpture by trade and works from a workshop on his property. Caileen is the case worker assigned to check in on the foster children in his care.
There is so much going on in this book that the relationship with Jeff and Caileen takes a bit on the backburner while the issues of Zia, Caileen’s daughter unfold. However, we never really deal with her issues, as she decides to transfer colleges and leave near her dad for awhile. Caileen has bouts of guilt and can’t seem to come to grips with her feelings for Jeff. Jeff, however, shows time and again that he is a man of integrity and honor.
So, this was not exactly what I had in mind when I pulled out this Laurie Paige, but I do look forward to the other books in the series, I just think I’ll wait a bit before I read the next.
