SHADOWS AT THE WINDOW by Linda Hall [Harlequin 62]
Former rock star bad girl Lilly Johnson has left her life as Lilith Java behind her, or so she thought, when the first e-mail arrived. The timing couldn't be worse. It's her six-month anniversary of dating youth pastor Greg Whitten, who knows nothing of her past, and she's sure he intends to propose. She cancels the date in a panic, but the nightmare is just beginning. Is it her old boyfriend/manager Mudd stalking her? But how can it be, when he is supposed to have died when she made her escape.....
I intended to read this the way I do most everything else: pick it up, read a bit, put it down when I left the room & go on to something else. That isn't what happened, however. I literally couldn't put it down once I was past the first few chapters. I had to know what would happen next. Something like this occurs less frequently in books than I'd like, and when it does, I'm always amazed. Linda Hall did a phenomenal job with this one. It's fabulous. The suspense is taut, danger levels remain high, and there are enough twists and turns in the mystery aspect to keep the most avid Agatha Christie fan happy. Highly recommended.
