Shattered Legacy by Lora Leigh

This book lays the foundation for the following 4 books which begin from many many years after the ending of this book. It explains the history behind the 4 couples. It is not a happily ever after book. It is saddening and full of trauma although there are moments of happiness for the couples, the ending doesn't portray this until the following books are read.

This book is about 4 warriors who are blessed with certain powers and immortality in order to kill the evil Jonar. Each warrior has been visited by a woman - their future wives - in their dreams, women with their own unique powers given to them by Mother Earth.

Chantel the eldest of the four is haunted by the knowledge that to defeat the evil Jonar she has to sacrifice her own life as well as knowing her sisters will suffer a similar fate. Although Devlin knows that something is wrong, he is unable to stop the inevitable from occuring. Chantel's death is horrific. In order to fulfil the destiny that awaits them, Chantel's father puts an enchantment on the warriors and everyone inhabiting the castle from remembering Chantel and places her half-sister (devious Antea) in her place. Devlin knows something is missing from his life but is unable to pinpoint what that is. He stays faithful to Chantel's memory throughout the centuries even though he doesn't remember her.

It is so sweet to read about in the next book and Devlin's love is so pure and beautiful for Chantel that it brings to your eyes when he learns of her death and how it affects him. The deaths of the sisters lays heavily in the story but the lightness and the romance portrayed is very entertaining. The rest of the story is very depressing but it makes you eager to know what happens nexr. The next book starts many centuries later with the reincarnation of Chantel.

An interesting read and very different style to the usual Lora Leigh books. I am very eager to read more from this author as well as from this series.
