The Sheikh's Disobedient Bride by Jane Porter (HP 2542)

Back Cover:

Sheikh Tair lives by the rules of the desert. When he finds Tally has broken a sacred law, endangering the safety of his tribe, Tair has to act.

Tally is kept like a harem girl, but every time she tries to escape, the hostile desert drives her back. And with each new act of her disobedience, Tair's resolve hardens. As ruler, he must tame her. As a man he wants her -- willing or not!   Warning: Feminists will object to the complete disregard of the heroine's right of choice here.  Of course the hero redeems himself in a way: by not caring about her past lover(s) and by giving her back her freedom at the end.

Favourite Scene:

Tair refilled his cup of tea from the small glazed pot. “I shall find you a husband.”

“What?”

He nodded matter of factly before sipping his tea. “You need a husband. It is the way it should be. I shall find you one. You will be glad.”

Another Fav Scene:

“I claim you,” he added, hands sliding down her back to clasp her buttocks, and hold her firm against his hips where his erection pressed thick and hard against her belly. “Don’t think you can change this. Don’t think you can run away now.”

My Review:

I really liked the book at first!  It was so intense.  The hero was possessive, I liked how he found her and tied her to him and claimed her and wouldn't let her go.  That was passionate.  The banter between them was funny, the ridiculousness made me laugh.  The hero was yummily alpha.  Some people most certainly will object to the fact that the heroine did not have the right of choice: she was forced into marriage even though she said "I don't", he never did intend to let her go (and this takes kidnapping a little too far).  I disliked the fact that the hero had brought other lovers to his special home (the rock mountain) because that's where they are settling down to live and it's not reall nice to have the ghosts of ex-lovers living in the marriage/family home.  The ending was a little unsatisfying because the threat of danger was not over, the couple did not settle down and get a happy ending.  We have no idea what their life is going to be like, the heroine could get killed next week quite easily.

My Rating: 2.5/5 stars, it was very passionate, but basically the last chapters left the book on a bad note for my personal taste, it left the couple with an uncertain future. They didn't get a HEA, they had the threat of assassination and abduction hanging over their heads like an eventual certainty.
