Simon is a professor and forensic historian. His close friend, archaeologist, David Morgan is killed. Simon is sure that David's death is somehow connected to a 14,000 year old Indian skeleton. It seems David might have been the deciding vote on whether or not were to be buried according to the local native Americans or to be studied as the greatest find in north America. Simon is the executor of David's estate and when he begins to look for notes he is sure that David had on the skeleton, he can't find them. Then David's sister arrives and she doesn't seem to be very broken up, and she is the one who will inherit all.
