Back Cover:
Count Wolf Gambrelli annoyed, irritated… and aroused her. Angelica tried to hate the Sicilian, but couldn't get him out of her head! Wolf had been chosen to protect her, and Angelica hoped her body would not betray her under the intense scrutiny of his gaze. It was clear that Wolf wanted Angelica—and he'd stop at nothing to bed her….
Spoiler Warning: All my reviews contain spoilers to some degree
Favourite Scene:
He drew in a sharp breath. ‘Are you absolutely certain you can’t be pregnant from our time together last night?’
She blinked. ‘You came back here at one o’clock in the morning to ask me that?’ she said incredulously.
No, of course he hadn’t come back here just to ask her that!
But it seemed as good a place as any to start this conversation…
‘Are you certain?’ he repeated insistently.
‘No, of course not. But—’
‘Would you like to be?’
Another Fav Scene:
‘No,’ Angelica contradicted, her gaze continuing to meet his steadily. ‘You’re right, Wolf. I couldn’t have shared a bed with you last night, made love with you, given myself to you, opened myself to you, if I was in love with another man.’
Wolf continued to look at her for several stunned seconds—and then the truth of what she’d said hit him in the chest with the force of a blow, knocking the air from his body, rendering him temporarily speechless.
He was the man Angel loved and wanted to spend the rest of her life with…?
He crossed the room in three powerful strides before reaching out to clasp her arms, looking down at her intently. His arms moved about the slenderness of her waist and he lowered his head to claim her mouth with his. Gently. Searchingly. Seeking. Seeking love.
He found it.
My Review:
The hero comes to the home of his well-respected older friend, and meets a woman there who he is fiercely attracted to. Unhappily for him, the woman is apparently the older man's mistress (but she's really his daughter, kind of a frequent HP twist). This is a good tale despite the plot being a bit familiar. It's emotional the way the hero meets the heroine, gets tormented by the idea of her being in bed with her supposedly-live-in older lover, and then feels compelled to question her on the affair, asking if she loves him. It seems like he can't shrug her off, even though he knows he should. Their first kiss was dramatic: she fell off a horse and he leans over her, makes sure she's alright, then kisses her hard. He soon finds out the true relationship: heroine is the daughter of the older man. The father needs heart surgery and he asks the hero to look after his daughter (make sure the press doesn't eat her alive). They can't keep themselves from falling into each other's beds.
One icky thing: they share a bedroom next door to her father's hospital bed, and the H gives the h an orgasm, which her father later comments on overhearing! EW. Very classy cover: classy dress, and the green really unites the cover, since the same green is in the dress, the ring around the picture, and the text of the author's name.
My Rating: 3.5/5 stars, good story on it's own, I would have given it a four if it were a bit more unique.

Yum
I was hoping I sould get to see more on Wolf Gambrelli. I just reviewed the first Sicilians story, so bet this will be good too>

One other thing... I love
One other thing... I love how the heroine's father and the hero are the only ones that call her ANGEL.... every time the hero calls her Angel or thinks of her as "Angel" it just feels tender.
I like...
the fact you give a heads up on icky scenes like that. Thanks!

Really... the author
Really... the author could have conveyed the fact that the heroine's father knows about the H/h's relationship in a BETTER WAY. The author didn't have to make the daddy find out by overhearing some sex.... I just picture the poor dad, sitting in the hospital bed, drugged out, and unable to cover his ears as his daughter's screams of pleasure and bangs come through the walls *SHUDDER*
Poor papa.
He never made it sound like he cared or judged... but come on, ickyness!
You know... the other Gambrelli book, about the cousin Cesare and Robin... it had a few scenes where the heroine's dad kept walking in on them kissing.... which was a more tasteful and funny way of revealing their true feelings. I'm surprised that CM made this Gambrelli book have a similar revelation to the heroine's father. Take a look at this fav scene of mine from the OTHER book.
Fav Scene: (the heroine's dad keeps walking in on the H/h groping)
‘Robin, I—Perhaps the two of you should get married as soon as possible!’ her father observed as they sprang guiltily apart to turn and look at him where he stood in the connecting doorway to his own office, next to Robin’s. ‘Or, alternatively, get a lock put on the door,’ he amended, with wry acceptance of the inevitable. ‘Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t the two of you part only a couple of hours ago?’
Ickyness!!!
Thanks, Janet.
Ewww!!! I like this author, but I guess I would pass this story.

I paint a dramatic picture,
I paint a dramatic picture, it's one tiny moment Orchid... if i told you the page number and said "don't read this page" then you'd never even know the father heard. It was never referred to in anything but 1 1/2 lines on the page. It was unnecessary, the author could have so easily avoided that ick factor.
It was a light hearted read and I'd read the book again of course. There are SOOOO many worse things that could turn you off a book. I recommend the book as a good light read.
Thanks for clarifying, Janet
I like your reviews, yours are not really spoilers, since we all know that the H & h would get togther somehow & HEA, yours review are like teasers, very interesting point of view.
Normally I don't comment when a review turns me away from that book, probably the blurb has already turned me off, so I read some reviews to see if I would change my mind. This time I commented because this could be 'one of the first' creativity from the author, I found it funny.
You have picked some funniest tid-bits from those stories. There are several books I have put into my TBB list after I read your reviews, so please don't feel bad because I am not too keen on this one.

Orchid... glad you feel
Orchid... glad you feel that way about my reviews (when it comes to spoilers). It makes me feel less guilty about spoiling things for others, because my idea of what should be left "unsaid" differs from others. Happy to hear that I'm not spoiling too much for your enjoyment of the books.
Ok, I get why you wouldn't be especially inspired to pick this one up. I'm of the opinion that this book was entertaining and suited my mood at the time, but it isn't as intense a read as some of my keepers. So I'm kind of telling you "don't avoid this one, it's good" but at the same time "if you can only buy one HP/SD book this month, I'd recommend another one". (and it's kind of sad that I've read so many that I could look back at the July/August HP/SDs and pick a top three and bottom three easily, and then all the other books fall somewhere in the "pretty good" middle)
Orchid... are you saying that you haven't read books by Carole Mortimer before? Did I understand that correctly? If you haven't read her books, I should tell you, she's one of my "safe authors" who I keep going back to because she always has low-angst, high-fidelity, low-ick reads! She's always reliable for that kind of read, so for me she's an author I like to recommend. (then again, I could recommend a dozen, but for different reasons)
I read a few CM
Hi, Janet
I've read quite a few books by CM, I like her style. I was a little bit surprise that she came up with that, that's what I mean 'one of the first'. It would be funny if it were in a comedy romantic.
I used to subscribed to HQN, roughly 20-30 % of them were so-so or not good (to me only), now I buy ebooks, so I pick & choose the one I feel like reading. Reading your & others' reviews actually broaden my horizon.
