"I want to talk about my child because I've waited three years to find him."
"You're not meeting Connor until you tell me what I need to know! What was I to you? A one-night stand? A hooker?" she slung furiously."Or a girlfriend?" With pronounced cool, Gianni came upright to face her."No to all of the above. Leave this for another day, cara," he advised quietly, incisive dark-as-night eyes resting on the revealing clenching and unclenching of her hands."When the time's right, TO tell you everything you want to know."
"I'll ask you one more time before I walk out of here...what was I to you?" Gianni expelled his breath in a slow hiss. You were my mistress."
My Review:
I don't understand how it happened, the time line of what led up to the amnesia wasn't given in flashbacks, so it seemed very present-focused, and thus a little harder to feel connected to. We never saw the hero walk in on her with his brother, react to the "infidelity" and then turn around and walk off with this random other woman, and then later on at some point have a DNA test done, while refusing to take the heroine's calls. I don't think I can sympathize with the hero for refusing to talk to his lover of two years who was carrying his child, while instead he went off with another woman (he said he didn't have sex with this woman, which means at least he didn't revenge-screw another woman while she was knocked up with his kiddie).
I also didn't understand how the hero couldn't find the heroine for 3 years. I would have expected him to say "screw pride" and post her picture and details of her disappearance all over the public media, then he would have found her instantly because everyone pays attention to news stories about this uber-rich man. It would have gone international. I especially expected him to go public since she was pregnant with his kid.
Putting that small beef with the plot aside, I liked the story, there was great chemistry, good history, a solid conflict, mystery slowly being revealed. I liked that the hero wanted her back the moment he met her again, despite thinking she'd been unfaithful. (but again, I hate how the heroine never ends up being unfaithful, while the hero goes out and actually is)
Rating: 3/5 stars, interesting amnesia story, good passion.
