A Slice of Heaven by Sherryl Woods-MIRA-Sweet Magnolias Series #2-March 2007
#53-We are back in the small town of Serenity but there is more brewing than comfort food at Sullivan's restaurant, run by divorced mom,Dana Sue. Two years ago she tossed her husband,Ronnie, and his belongings out after he had a one-nite stand. Since that time Dana has been a compulsive eater which isn't good since she is pre-diabetic,while her teenage daughter,Annie tries to hide her anorexia.
Things begin to happen after Annie goes into cardiac arrest-no longer can either of them continue in denial. Because of the seriousness,Dana does call her ex Ronnie, who immediately makes his way to the hospital, and maybe back into their lives. Ronnie is very willing to prove he has changed but Dana and her strong will provide quite the battle for him.
Annie's struggle is far from over, but she does discover she has a very good support system of friends and family which is needed to recover. Once she is honest about the cause of her problem, her parents are forced to face many unpleasant truths which Dana Sue doesn't accept graciously.
This book really was hard to read at times as I have gone through similar tests and denial of diabetes, also my youngest went through a phase of drastic cuts in eating but thankfully wasn't nearly as serious as Annie's. Sherryl does a wonderful job of bringing it to light and showing the effects, plus how it is dealt with by the Sullivans and their many friends. I thoroughly enjoyed this 2nd in the series and will now go onto the final one, which is Helen Decatur's story. Am anxious to see what is in store for this stern, independent single lawyer.

A couple of kids in my high
A couple of kids in my high school were anorexic. Not as much was known about it back then.
