Smoky Mountain Reunion by Lynette Kent
Some things never change: Like the fact that Mason Reed is as irresistable as the day eighteen-year old Nola Shannon first fell in love with him. But some things do. Twelve years later the hadsome teacher is now a widowed single father with a ten-year old son who's suddenly making Nola yearn to be part of a family.
The last time Mason saw Nola was at her high-school graduation. Having her back in their North Carolina town is rekindling feelings that have only grown stronger with time. He and his son need someone special in their lives. Could lovely, caring Nola - the woman Mason has never been able to forget be that special someone?
I enjoyed reading this book as it dealt with all our fantasies about having a happy ever after with the handsome teacher we have crushes on during our school years. For me that was the very young science teacher who began teaching my last year at high school. This story brought back so many good memories - not that the teacher ever taught me. But still we can dream!!!
The story dealt with Nola's memories of her school days and her interaction with Mason Reed but not vice versa. It was alluded to that he had begun to have feelings for her so he decided to step back from her. No examples were given of events that made him realise this. The past events were mainly from Nola's perspective. It would have been more interesting to have these events from Mason's perpective too.
Also no indication was given to Mason's relationship with his deceased wife before Nola left the school. Although her mother alluded to it in a sentence which stated that Mason was dating his wife when he came to the school. This was indicated nearly at the end but throughout the story it felt like Mason started dating his wife after Nola left the school. What was the truth?
Mason and Nola's scenes were good and they both portrayed some chemistry and I had a lovely time reading it. By the end of the book there was a sense of anti-climax that didn't gel with the rest of the story.
There was a mystery in the story regarding vandalism at the school which was a side benefit to the story. I decided to buy this book after reading the reviews of this book in this forum and couldn't resist buying it. I had it in my to buy sometime list but after reading the reviews I couldn't resist. It was worth buying this book.
