The Soldier's Homecoming by Donna Alward, H. Romance, #4014, March 2008
Jonas Kirkpatrick left town when he was transferred, not knowing he was leaving a pregnant Shannyn Smith behind because Shan didn't know she was pregnant. So he is shocked to look into the eyes of a five year old little girl whose color was the same moss green as his. Shan knows he has a right to see his daughter, Emma. Could she get past her resentment of him leaving her six years ago? Would he leave Emma? Could he ever forgive her for keeping quiet that he had a daughter?
This was a wonderful telling of the story of not only a soldier coming home but also of the woman he left behind. The story was wonderfully written from both the H and h's POV. Both Jonas and Shan were strong. Jonas for admitting he needed help and Shan for not letting Jonas's actions frighten her away. BTW Donna I like the double-double from Timmy's too
. It was nice that this phrase was explained to non Canadian Tim Horton coffee drinkers

Read this awhile
Read this awhile back and enjoyed it. I usually don't care for secret babies but this author made the story work and work well. Glad you enjoyed it too.

Imagination... the magical whispers from within.
Gosh.... Donna, are you out there?
Christa and Nicole, I can't BELIEVE how many places I've seen this book mentioned here on eharl! More fuel for the fire since mine STILL hasn't arrived yet! At this point, I may meet my postman at the box and actually give him a big [[[hug]]] when he finally hands the package over - LOL. I can't wait to read it!
By the way, Christa, you wrote a great review.
I'm here...
And I can't believe it either, Amanda. I'm so pleased it's being read, and reviewed, and generally liked. It's giving me a little performance anxiety over my next, to be honest! LOL It's amazing, and very humbling.
I'm incredibly grateful to everyone who's supported this book and by extension me by buying and reading. And I'm particularly happy that it has resonated with readers. It is very close to my heart.
Thank you all...
Donna

I GOT MY BOOKS, GUYS!
Yay, they got here just an hour ago! I'll read Donna's book tonight, Michelle Styles' Taken By the Viking tommorow and Cara Colter's The Playboy's Plain Jane the day after!
However, I decided not to [[[hug]]] the postman after all - LOL. A smile would crack the poor bloke's face!
Donna, from what I've heard, I hardly think you need to fret! You have a great fan base. I thoroughly admire you! And since I've learned some of your tastes in literature and movies from having blogged on eharl with you, I'm pretty sure I'm going to like The Soldier's Homecoming as well. I already read your excerpt from Falling For Mr. Dark and Dangerous. In fact, I think I left you a post on your blog about it....
Sounds good.
after reading reviews
after reading all the great reviews out there about this book I just had to get to it right away and am glad I did

I wonder, does any author
I wonder, does any author every stop worrying about whether people are going to love their
babybook (yeah, that's it...book)? And then, what if the next book flops? But Donna, I can't imagine that your next book will flop. You have a strong, gutsy, gritty writing style, creating well fleshed out, emotive characters. Ah the yummy Jonas and sweet Shannon...Nancy
That's a good question,
That's a good question, Nancy. And I don't think so.
I don't haunt the amazon rankings or things like that. I do like to get good feedback, who wouldn't! LOL. But I think authors are generally concerned with delivering a great read for their readers, and wanting to leave them satisfied. I know I've stopped reading authors who seemed to lose quality after a while. So with each book you really have the reader in mind, and want to deliver the strongest read possible.
The August book has a stronger external plot than I've used before. I think that is a key difference.
And all authors are aware that if the readers aren't buying...well the publishers aren't going to either. None of us wants to get dropped. It doesn't happen often but we all know how tight things are in publishing so the need to prove yourself does not go away. For me, loving what I do so very much, I don't ever want to take it for granted, you know?

Nice blog Christa. It's great when authors care about their readers but I agree that it is hard to imagine you and flop in the same breath.
