Son of the Shadows (2008) by Nancy Holder (SN # 46)

We start with Jean-Marc de Devereaux  experiencing unbelievable pain in a dungeon in Haiti. His tortures almost end him but at the last minute he is saved, at least partly.  This comes, however, at a price to Isabelle De Bouvard, who he had saved earlier and had started the current travails he was facing.  Isabelle had flown to his aid and her current paramour had followed and is now also in dire straights. It seems to Isabelle that all hell had broken loose and now Jean-Marc was close enough to himself to try to protect Isabelle, despite herself. While Isabelle is trying to understand things Jean-Marc works to try and fix the situation which at the moment seemed almost unfixable.

This is the only book I have read in ‘The Gifted’ series. It was fine and you caught up to speed of what it going on eventually with no problem but the cast of characters was large and every now and then I lost track of who was supposed to be on who’s side. There is a big love triangle in the book which made me feel bad for both heroes involved although you could also understand  the conflict that Isabelle was facing. It works out fine in the end (for the guys anyway), which I was wondering if it could. Just like Isabelle must have seen all along  Jean-Marc finally understands his own feelings, but almost to late. The book was good, not my favorite series but good. Now that I have read this one I want to see an end to the current conflict, and Isabelle's fate, and will be anticipating the next few installments.  Undecided

I picked this up

I picked this up because I've read other books by Nancy but didn't realize it was not the first book in the series. Glad I happened on your review now I've got to go see if I can get others in the series or if I have them already in the ole TBR pile.

Looking out for

Hey, Debkc3, It will be interesting to read your take on any of this series you read. Especially since you have read Nancy before, which I hadn't. Smile
