THE SPANISH DOCTOR'S LOVE-CHILD by Kate Hardy (HMR #364)

Format: Print Books

cover Betsy Marston has had a bad week.  Her roommate convinces her to attend a party where she meets the sexy Leandro Herrerra.  Neither Betsy nor Leandro usually give in to their impulses, but for that one night all is magical.  One night is all either planned… until they realize that they are now coworkers as Leandro is the new emergency room consultant where Betsy is a nurse practitioner. And how will either of them handle it when they find out Betsy is pregnant?

Kate Hardy is an author I’ve recently discovered and THE SPANISH DOCTOR’S LOVE-CHILD is yet another stellar offering from her talented pen.  Despite the fact that the relationship starts off with a one night stand, the romance itself builds slowly and steadily.  Both Betsy and Leandro have commitment issues and it takes time for that trust to grow between them.  Kate Hardy shows this development beautifully and realistically.

Kate Hardy tackles some very sensitive issues about parenting in THE SPANISH DOCTOR’S LOVE-CHILD.  Both Leandro and Betsy have experienced pain in their pasts, pain that makes them both question their relationship.  Kate Hardy concludes the book with one of the most believable discussions about trust that I think I’ve ever read in a romance novel.  Easily recommended!

I did not have high

I did not have high expectations for this book initially, so, I was pleasantly surprised.

Isn't the cover super? I love the beaming baby!

I have

this but I'v been putting off because I didn't care for the title. Glad to hear it's goog so I can move it up in the pile.

Titles and covers

I love the baby... but yeah, the title is not my fave.  I know there is some formula they use for these titles but the formula does NOT appeal to me at all.  I held off on this one and only read it because it was Kate Hardy since even the blurb didn't sound appealing.  BUT having said that... it was really good!

Yeah, there are some very

Yeah, there are some very off-putting titles out there.

I like the cover too.  I

I like the cover too.  I really can't stand these titles.  They make me embarrassed to even mention books to my non-romance reading friends which is really too bad because so many of these short romances are really works of art when one looks at the writing.  I know they asre primarily pleasure reads...but even pleasure reads have to be well written to be enjoyed by so many people.  I know there is a formula that goes into the titles but I just wonder how man people really look and buy from the titles even though they are short-hand for something.  I am more likely to ignore the title completely.  For me, the sub-line labels (but not series) like HR has Baby on Board, Nine to Five, Desert Brides etc tell me more ususally than the titles.  Sometimes the titles are almost the opposite of the book's meaning too!

Titles...

or they give away the whole story!  I don't remember which book it was that actually gave away the surprise ending that the woman got pregnant.  UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I really hate the titles and I understand there is a formula but hello, they aren't even selling these over the shelves so can we at least be rewarded with intelligent titles since we are having to loyally order them every month???  Sorry, ranting here....

Good point.  Change the

Good point.  Change the titles...and put them on the shelves.  I have just had enough of getting damaged books that even a trip to Walmart would be better for my blood pressure these days.

Too logical

That would be entirely TOO logical!  Sorry, being cynical here.... And oh man, I know you don't like WalMart so....

Gasp, Merri, you would even

Gasp, Merri, you would even step into Wal-Mart if medicals were on their shelves? WOW.

BTW, I like your avatar, very cool.
