The Stranger and I

Lila Monroe is a graduate student on assignment in Mexico when she meets up with Chad Delany who offers to give her a ride when her car breaks down.  But he has to make a stop first.  When Lila wakes up, she sees Chad with his hands tied behind his back, being whipped by two men speaking a foreign language.  As she ponders how to save Chad, he sees her and shouts out something in Spanish as he is shot dead.  Then two men burst out of the bushes speaking Spanish and Lila takes off in Chad's car.  At a gas station, she finds a body stuffed in the trunk.  Chad had given her an address in San Diego and there she meets up with Justin Vidal who is as menacing as can be.  It's quickly clear to Lila that she's in something very scary and that her son and mother are also in danger.  But just who is Justin Vidal?  Can she trust him?

I enjoyed this story.  There were enough twists and turns to keep you interested even though some of them seem implausible.  Both Lila and Justin fight their attraction to each other until the very end but, with her son's life at stake, they had to trust each other with their lives and their hearts.  I give this book a B+.Cool
