The Summoning

by Kelley Armstrong

(Doubleday Canada - July 2008)

Rating: Very Good

Series: Darkest Powers, book 1

I was a little disappointed by Armstrong's last book for adults, but her first young adult book more than made up for it.

When Chloe Saunders starts seeing ghosts and freaks out at her high school, she's sent to a group home to recover from her mental illness...but she soon begins to wonder if she's actually ill, or if her visions mean something greater.

This was a fantastic book, well-paced with great characters and an interesting mystery. I really felt Chloe's isolation and fear, and enjoyed her self-discovery and budding friendships with the other house inmates. Armstrong's talents have translated quite well to the young adult genre...I can't wait for the next book!

Warning: This is a cliffhanger!

This is in

my wishlist at Audible so I may go ahead and use my credits for it. I've been debating. Thanks for the review.

re: The Summoning

Hey Deb,

If the narrator is any good, I bet you'll really enjoy it...it's fast-paced and told in first person (after the preface) so it's probably quite suited to the audio format.
