This was Charlaine Harris's first novel, and it has been reissued in paperback, to our great delight. Her work showed great promise even in the beginning, and this murder mystery is steeped in Southern tradition. You can feel the summer heat, hear the flies buzzing... Catherine Linton has returned to her hometown after the death of her parents six months earlier. When she finds the nurse who worked for Dr. Linton beaten to death, Catherine realizes that her parents really were murdered, and she could be next...
Don't go into this novel expecting the level of craftsmanship that Charlaine Harris currently has, and you will enjoy it. The suspense is high, and well done. Ignore the reviews on Amazon.com. I liked this book. You may, too. The talent is there, and the writing is solid.
