Sweet Spot by Susan Mallery, HQN 8/2008
This second book about the Keyes sisters was just as good as the first! Loved it!
Nicole Keyes, twin sister to Claire, always knew she would be the one running the family bakery. She has no idea if that would have been her choice or if she even had a choice. Nicole was forced into taking on a lot of responsibility at a very young age. Considering all the problems she has with her younger sister Jesse she doesn't know if she did a good job.
High school football coach and former NFL player, Hawk, first meets Nicole when he comes to the rescue of his star quarterback. After Raoul attempts to steal doughnuts from the bakery Nicole gives him a second chance by having him work off the debt. Hawk is impressed with her willingness to give Raoul a second chance. Raoul seems to be grateful to both Hawk and Nicole. He does such a good job that Nicole offers him a position at the bakery.
This story has a lot of twists, complications and some really good sarcastic humor! Hawk and Nicole start to date after she strikes a deal with him to be his sex kitten if he will be pretend to be her boyfriend. Raoul dates Hawk's daughter, Brittany a cheerleader. Nicole's almost ex keeps showing up despite the fact that their divorce is almost final. Nicole's sister Jesse keeps messing up instead of growing up. Raoul needs a home which Nicole offers him. There is so much going on which adds more and more complications into the life of Nicole not to mention Hawk, Raoul and Brittany.
The hero, Hawk, grabbed me in the beginning since he is a football coach. Nicole doesn't seem to have much control on her life. Instead of thinking things through she reacts but not always with maturity. Made for some interesting reading in my opinion. Can't wait to pick up Sweet Trouble and start reading!
