Blurb: This is the story of Skif. Until now he's a secondary character in the series. Take a Thief brings him center stage, it covers his childhood from roughly the age of 8 up to the time he was Chosen to be a Herald
and the events immediately following his arrival at the Collegium. Skif is an orphan who lives in his uncle's pub, doing all the grunt work. He eventually hooks up with a group of pickpockets and becomes a very talented thief. When his mentor Bazie is killed he vows to find the one responsible and get revenge. While out on a job he impulsivley steals a white horse, only to discover he was the one being stolen.
This one became an immediate favorite. I always liked Skif in the other books, he's a fun loving prankster you just can't help but like. Obviously a reread, I finally found a hardcover copy to add to my collection and the temptation to read it again was so strong. I enjoy taking these visits back to Valdemar, while I was an adult when this one came out they always take me back to when I was 13 and just discovering the series. It was just as great a read this time as it was the first time I sat down and read it.

Skif's story is one of my favorites and an annual re-read along with a few other Valdamar books.

Has anyone else seen the pre-order for Foundations on Amazon? It says it's a Valdemar novel, and due out in October. Lackey's website hasn't been updated in a while so I couldn't find a blurb on it.

Re: Foundations
I just looked it up and it is listed on fantasticfiction.co.uk too, but there wasn't any further information.
I checked the publishing company, too, but it looks like they don't show anything further than August of this yr.

re: Take a Thief
Oooh, you guys have me all curious about Foundations now...Valdemar's origin story, maybe?
As for Take a Thief, Skif was one of my favourite characters, too. Great book.
I liked Skif's book but I think I preferred Alberich's two books

Foundation
I asked Misty and this is what she responded: "…working on bunches of other stuff. Including, yes, the first of a new Valdermar series, Collegium Chronicles: Foundation. It's about the founding of Herald's Collegium after Vanyel and follows three friends, Heraldic, Healer and Bardic Trainees."
In addition, she is working on another project: The Secret Worlds Chronicles <http://www.secretworldchronicles.com>
As for the Owl series, I thought the same thing as My Dearest Gnat. I asked Misty about that series a while ago when she was still active on the LUNA boards. She said Larry and she were both being treated for depression and that the medicine affected their writing.
