This was a juicy morsel of viking adventure and action, mixed with the perfect amount of sensuality.
Annis, the daughter of a respectable nobleman, is staying with her uncle near his monastery, when vikings arrive to trade. Watching from a window she is too far to hear the actual conversation between the handsome leader and her uncle, but watches in horror as the attempt to trade sours and a massacre breaks loose. Her uncle is murdered along with most of the other monks and ladies who are present.
When Annis and her servant attempt to escape, circumstances place Annis into the attention of the handsome Viking leader - Haakon Haroldson. In order to protect her, he places his cloak about her and orders her to be taken along with a handful of captured monks back to his homeland.
Annis, captured, taken from everything familiar, is stranded in a foreign land, with only the slightest hope of her family paying ransom for her. She knows she should hate Haakon for what he'd allowed his men to do, and for the pagan gods he and his people serve, and yet she is drawn to Haakon, craving from him the passion that lays smoldering beneath the surface. When their feelings become mutual, Annis must make up her mind whether to simply remain a captured hostage or become Haakon's concubine. Her mind says one thing, her body says something different. Yet, it in the end it is her heart, and Haakon's, that has the final say.....
This book was delicious with rich history that popped and came alive. Some of the action sequences had me holding my breath til their outcome! Loved it!

Thanks, Janet....
...for the compliment. I feel like a terrific book needs as good of a review as I can possibly give it, although I don't feel I've done this book enough credit. If you like historicals then I'm sure you'll love this one!
By the way, I see that you're an author. Which line are your books in? I'm always glad to try new books and lines!

And you're right, it does have a beautiful cover - rich and warm colors!
I know what it's like to get behind - my TBR pile keeps growing and growing! But, then, on the plus side, it's nice to have a choice of which tasty book to read next, don't you think?

Amanda
Amanda -- Thanks for your interest in my books. I write for the Steeple Hill lines. I have some chick lit books (The Sisterhood of the Dropped Stitches series), some contemporary and I have a historical coming out with the Love Inspired Historical line in November (Montana territory).

Congrats...
...on your upcoming historical book, Janet! I'm guessing that each subsequental book is as important to an established author as their first one, am I right?
My sister-in-law loves Steeple Hill books. They're the only Harlequins she reads because of her religion. I have borrowed some from her before - mostly historicals, though she won't borrow mine. I do like chick-lit sometimes, as well. Your Sisterhood of the Dropped Stitches series sounds interesting. I'll add the first one to my TBB list. My choice of reading is so well-rounded it's hard for me to pinpoint any specific line or sub-genre. I can go from one end of the spectrum to the total opposite.

Amanda, you're absolutely
Amanda, you're absolutely right that each book is thrillng no matter how many you have on the shelf. The Sisterhood books and the historical are very different, but I'm happy with them all.
