Tempting Evil by Allison Brennan
This is the second book in the Prison Break Trilogy. I have come to love Allison Brennan's books and was happy to have found a truely wonderful writer early in her published career. She had become an auto-buy author for me so I was thrilled when this book came out.
Having said that, I was a bit disappointed in this one. The story didn't grip me and move as fast as her previous ones for me. Overall, I enjoyed the story and the characters. I felt Jo's pain and tragedy, felt the goodness and love Tyler had. Jason pulled at my heartstrings. And the setting and storyline were good. I just didn't get into the story as much as I would have liked. The second half was much better than the first, and the last few chapters were really action packed. I did find myself tearing up towards the end. But I can't spoil it for anyone.
I still look forward to the next book in this trilogy. It's about O'Brien, and I know in my heart he has to be a good guy, even if he did break out of prison. Guess we'll have to wait and see!
Blurb from back cover: Joanna Sutton can cope with the fierce winter storm bearing down on the small rural community of Centennial Valley, Montana;; the popular romance writer has survived much worse in life. Haunted by the loss of her husband and child, Jo has found refuge at her family's secluded lodge, but her haven soon becomes a hell. During the ferocious blizzard, a local Boy Scout troop is stranded in the wilderness, compelling Jo to spearhead a desperate rescue mission, aided by a newly arrived stranger with an unknown agenda.
Meanwhile, Sheriff Tyler McBride hears that two escaped convicts are fast approaching Big Sky Country. Hoping to warn Jo, he faxes over the men's mug shots. But they never reach their intended recipient. Then Tyler makes a shocking discover: Two people are dead, and a killer is among the group, along with the woman Tyler loves, searching for his lost son.
More than one innocent life is at stake. For the sake of those Jo cares about most, and for her own survival, she'll need all the cunning, courage, and passion she can muster to survive the mounting terror.
