Tribute by Nora Roberts
Just finished this book and it brought back to me what I first fell in love with about NR's books. I'll admit, the last couple years, I haven't loved her single titles as much as I used to. I enjoyed them, but not as much as past novels. I'm so happy that this one brought back the love I have been missing.
I loved Ford's humor. He's not anything like the alpha males I've read lately. He's totally laid back and charming. He's funny and had me cracking up more than a few times due to his one-liners. I could see falling for him and just having him as a best friend. And his dog, Spock, was just perfect. What a personality. I found myself laughing at him as well.
Cilla's personality was refreshing. She was smart and held her own very well. I loved her love of restoring her grandmother's home. Finding sanctuatry and finally finding her home for the first time in her life.
This book was a very good read. And I was a bit surprised by the ending and the :who-done-it". I hope NR's books continue hooking me for many many years to come. I'm sure there are things I wanted to say about this story that i'm forgetting now. If I think of them, I'll be back.
blurb from cover: Virginia's Shenandoah Valley is a long way from Hollywood. And that's exactly how Cilla McGowan wants it. Cilla, a former child star who has found more satisfying work as a restorer of old houses, has come to her grandmother's farmhouse, tools at her side, to rescue it from ruin. Sadly, no one was able to save her grandmother, the legendary Janet Hardy. An actress with a tumultuous life, Janet entertained glamorous guests and engaged in decadent affairs—but died of an overdose in this very house more than thirty years earlier. To this day, Janet haunts Cilla's dreams. And during waking hours, Cilla is haunted by her melodramatic, five-times-married mother, who carried on in the public spotlight and never gave her a chance at a normal childhood. By coming east, rolling up her sleeves, and rehabbing this wreck of a house, Cilla intends to find some kind of normalcy for herself.
Plunging into the project with gusto, she's almost too busy to notice her neighbor, graphic novelist Ford Sawyer—but his lanky form, green eyes, and easy, unflappable humor (not to mention his delightfully ugly dog, Spock) are hard to ignore. Determined not to perpetuate the family tradition of ill-fated romances, Cilla steels herself against Ford's quirky charm, but she can't help indulging in a little fantasy.
But love and a peaceful life may not be in the cards for Cilla. In the attic, she has found a cache of unsigned letters suggesting that Janet Hardy was pregnant when she died—and that the father was a local married man. Cilla can't help but wonder what really happened all those years ago. The mystery only deepens with a series of intimidating acts and a frightening, violent assault. And if Cilla and Ford are unable to sort out who is targeting her and why, she may—like her world-famous grandmother— be cut down in the prime of her life.

Hi Tracey
Yours is the first feedback on this book that I've read. I have a copy from the library sitting in front of me and I'll be getting to it really soon. The blurb sounded good so I'm glad that you think it is. Can't wait to get to it now.
Margie :)

I just finished it last night and felt similarly to you.

I had read a review that made Ford seem almost stalker-like, which seemed totally off-base to me as he was so upfront with wanting to draw her and such. The ending did surprise me. I thought it was going to be the other person - the one Ford accuses towards the end, never really picked up the other character. Another excellent Nora outing.

Cady, I can see how some would think that about Ford at the beginning, but I didn't agree and quickly forgot about that anyway. :) And I thought it was the person you did, too. Glad there was a twist in there. A great book!
