Anne Brendall was the manager of her mother and 2 siblings- she kept the household organised and intact. The death of her uncle meant more economy was needed and Anne needed to get a job. A perfect opportunity was offered to her by her sister's ex-boss, Murray Farraday, (he had just fired her sister) who offered her the part-time job as companion to his mother. T o add to her happiness she soon became engaged to Gregory Payne whom she had adored for years. Family responsibilities caused her to delay a wedding however.
Another lovely book. I loved the H who was " there" and the closing scene was lovely and affectionate.
