Gillian Ridgeway, daughter of Adam and Maggie.  Adam and Maggie both were undercover agents for OMEGA, a super-secret government agency that took orders only from the President.  Gillian is working as executive assistant to the director, Uncle Nick.  Gillian has decided that she wants to become an agent.  Her parents support her and so does her Uncle Nick.  The agent that doesn’t is Mike Callahan.  Mike wants to protect her and try to remember her as a young teenager that he taught how to shoot - not the beautiful woman she's become.  The OMEGA director has agreed to let Mike handle the case where an old friend (DEA) has been killed.  DEA was investigating a case of an animal found on the side of a California highway with an unidentified virus.  Gillian offers to research the virus and cults that use animals as offerings to the Gods.  Next thing is that Gillian is Mike’s pretend bride while they track down the deadly virus in Hong Kong.  Gillian worked in Hong Kong for three years in the State Department before returning home and accepting the part-time job with OMEGA.  Both Gillian and Mike are trying to keep their hands off each other while working the case.  The case gets complicated - what with children scam artists and the suspect, a woman, a mud slide and an attempted kidnapping.

Excellent read.
