Warrior Rising by P.C. Cast

The latest in PC Cast's Goddess Summoning series. This book is about the warrior Achilles during the Trojan War. Years ago, Achilles was given the choice of two destinies. One would find him leaving a very long life, filled with love, but he would die and not be remembered for many many years to come. The other desinty would find him being the best warrior ever, and his name would live forever, but he would die young in battle. The Young Achilles choice for his name to live forever.

Years later, during the Trojan war, when Achilles knew his fate would be that he would die at the end of the war, being possessed by the raging beserker, Achilles fought hard. Females were scared to even look at him. But in his heart, where he dared never talk about, he wished he had chosen differently in his fate, but believed there was nothing that could be done.

Enter Kat, from modern-day Tulsa, with her friend Jacky, with the help of a few interferring Goddesses, and everything changes. I won't give anything else away. You have to read the book. And I highly suggest you do.

I love PC Cast's series. Her heros are always super yummy. And her heroines, especially the women from Tulsa, always have me cracking up. And this book was no different. I especially loved Jacky. I was in bed reading and Jacky would have me laughing so hard. I was up until 2:30am because I couldn't put the book down, I had to finish it.

I did keep having flashbacks to the movie Achilles with Brad Pitt though. This book had PC Cast's own version of the story, but I couldn't help it. And because of the movie, I just knew what was going to happen at one point. And it did, which upset me. But things always work out in the end... that's all I'm gonna say!

blurb from back cover: Goddesses Hera, Athena, and Venus have had it up to here with the Trojan War. So much devastation - all because of some silly male egos. The worst of teh bunch is Achilles, the Greek champion whose powers have made him pravtially invincible. To stop him would be to end the war. But the only way to stop a man like Achilles is to distract him - with something far more pleasurable than combat...

The three goddesses seize their chance when a twenty-first-century beauty named Kat and her best friend perish in a car crash in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In no time, they shift the friends' souls into the bodies of a Trojan princess and her handmaiden, having no doubt that Kat will catch Achilles's attention. But can her independent, fiery spirit match the unquenchable fire of his epic rage? Goddess only knows...

re: Warrior Rising

Oh, this sounds like a great book.  I still have a few more P.C. Cast books kicking around, but I'll have to grab Warrior Rising when I've finished those.  She's always a fun read and I love Trojan war mythology.

It's funny what you've said about flashbacks to the movie Troy.  I often go back to the first version of a story that captured me...for me this would be the Marion Zimmer Bradley book about the Trojan War called The Firebrand...in it, Achilles was a jerk, so it's hard to see him as a hero!

Oh, you'll definitely

Oh, you'll definitely sympathize with him early no in this book, no need to worry about that. :)  Can't wait to hear what you think!
