About Me
I'm a 27 yr.old single mother to a wonderful, beautiful daughter who is an utter joy! I live in Newfoundland, Canada and love it here, especially the community I live in...I can stand in my backyard and watch the whales and iceburgs go by in the Atlantic Ocean...how many people can say that, LOL. I love learning about different places and different cultures and I LOVE history! LOL. Right now I'm helping my daughter research our family tree and came across an article that a young man wrote for a university course on my great grandmother (who recently passed away). The paper was written in 2001 (by her god-son actually) and I learned things about her from reading that, that amazed me. For example, on June 19, 1919 when she was just 5 yrs.old and at Lester's field she witnessed the first aircraft to make a non-stop flight across the Atlantic Ocean flown by Capt. John Alcock and Lieut. Arthur Brown. Then once again when she was 13 yrs.old she was able to witness another piece of history...at that time they lived on Southside Road (close to the St. John's Harbour) when a plane flew by quite low to the water with the writting "The Spirit of St. Louis" on the side of it...their house was situated on the side of the hill which put them at almost eye level with the pilot. She waved to the pilot and was amazed when he waved back....her grandfather was outside with her at the time and told her to remember that day...because it was the day that she saw Lindbergh fly past their house and he was able to steer the plane with his left hand while her waved at her with his right!! That gave me goosebumps reading...and I can't wait to see what else I can find out about my family and thier history. Anyway, that's enough for now, I'm writting this at 2:10 am and think it's about time I got to bed, LOL.
